(Margarita, Margherita, Marguerite, Margarete) [1045-1093] was married to King Malcolm III and bore him eight children. She used her influence as queen for the good of religion and the promotion of justice. She always helped the sick, the poor and orphans. She was famous for penance, mortification and devotion. In old age, before her death, she was bedridden and very lonely. Her son, David, also became a saint. Her symbols are the crown and the tartan. She is Patroness of Scotland, of queens, widows, parents of large families, and of the death of children. Her feast is November 16
