Apostle and martyr. By patronym Simon, he was given the name Peter (rock) and made leader of the apostles by Jesus, who called both him and his brother St. Andrew from their trade as fishermen to discipleship. He is patron of popes. His feast days are June 29, February 22 and November 18.
