(Theresa, Therese) [1910-1997], was born into a wealthy and very religious Albanian family in Yugoslavia. She learned her love of the sick and the poor from her mother. At 12 she wanted to be a missionary to India. At 18 she joined the Sisters of Loreto and moved to India. She left her convent in 1948 to serve the poor. She received her first vocation in 1949 and her missionaries of Charity became an official congregation in 1950. Because of her life of love for the sick and the dying, the poor and the unwanted, she is held, by Christian and non-Christian alike, to be a saint. Her feast is October 1. She was canonized by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016.
